The classroom portion covers the four topics required by Texas DPS:
• Texas laws relating to weapons and the use of deadly force
• Handgun use and safety, including secure carrying practices
• Nonviolent dispute resolution
• Safe handgun storage, with an emphasis on preventing accidental access by children
Students will also complete the required written examination, range instruction, and handgun proficiency demonstration.

The day begins with four hours of instructor-led classroom education in a comfortable, approachable setting. Drew explains the material clearly, allows time for questions, and helps students understand how the information applies in real-life situations.
After the classroom portion and written examination, students will transition to Red River Rifle & Pistol Club for range instruction and the required shooting qualification.
Plan for approximately six hours of instruction and testing. Water and light snacks will be provided.

Please bring:
• A valid government-issued photo ID
• An unloaded, functioning handgun secured inside a case
• At least 50 rounds of the correct ammunition for your handgun
• Eye and ear protection
• Closed-toe shoes
• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing for the range
• A brimmed hat, if desired, for additional protection at the range
Your firearm must remain unloaded and secured inside its case until you are instructed to remove it at the range.
If you are unsure whether your firearm, ammunition, or equipment is appropriate, text Summit Defense at (940) 764-9397 before class.

You do not need to be an expert shooter to attend, but an LTC class is not designed to serve as a first-time firearms lesson.
Before class, students should be comfortable following the basic rules of firearm safety and safely loading, unloading, and operating their handgun.
If you are brand new, nervous, or not yet comfortable handling your firearm independently, private training may be the better first step. We can help you build the necessary skills before moving into the LTC process.
Not sure if you’re ready? Text Drew at (940)764-9397 and tell him about your current experience level.
